Film Association of Malawi (Fama) 0n Tuesday joined forces with Lilongwe City Council (LCC) in planting 200 trees along the new M1 Road.
Fama President Dorothy Kingston, accompanied by husband-cum-renowned musician Zeze, and Lilongwe City Mayor Esther Sagawa led other players in the exercise.
The tree planting exercise also attracted the presence of rapper Nyau king Tay Grin.
The Fama leader, who is seeking to elevate the film industry, described the tree planting exercise as vital for environmental conservation.
She dared filmmakers and fellow creatives to lead in such initiatives.
“As filmmakers and creatives, it is our duty to protect the environment because we need green cities and places to shoot our films and music videos.
“We need to show that we care about this, hence joining this tree planting exercise,” the entrepreneur and fashionistas said.
She said Fama would continue to support Lilongwe City Council in environmental conservation efforts.
Sagawa said the involvement of celebrities from the film and music industry was a deliberate move to set an example on the importance of tree planting.
“Our goal is to plant more trees and we are confident that this is achievable through our strategies. We want to have a clean capital city, one that is beautiful and green,” she said.
