The Football Association of Malawi has intensified preparations for the newly established National Division League after holding a two-day workshop over the weekend.
The exercise attracted representatives of all 12 teams that have been earmarked to compete in the inaugural 2025- 26 NDL season.
Fam Technical Director Benjamin Kumwenda lauded the training, saying it was aimed at equipping officials with knowledge to ably manage teams in the country’s second tier.
“The first is the sporting criteria, where we are imparting knowledge in them as regards how they can develop young players. The other one is infrastructure; we wanted them to play in stadia which are not occupied by Super League teams because we wanted them to play on better pitches.
“We are also drilling them on how they can manage finances within their teams. Then, the other one is about administration and personnel, where we wanted them to have offices, with an administrative officer,” Kumwenda, who is also a member of the Fam Club Licensing First Instance Body, told the association’s website.
Speaking on behalf of the participants, Namitete Zitha General Secretary Mathews Mbetewa said the workshop was an eye opener.
“So far, so good. We, as a team, have learnt a lot,” he said.
Mbetewa also applauded Fam for organising the training.
“This is an important exercise in a bid to transform the game,” he said.
