Youthful musician Emmie Deebo left the country on Tuesday for Zanzibar, Tanzania, where she is expected to perform at the Zanzibar Awards Gala Night this weekend.
The artist, of the ‘Chilipo’ fame, said before departure at Chileka International Airport in Blantyre that she was set for the showdown.
She said she also wanted to fly Malawi’s flag at the event.
“This is not only about me but Malawi,” Deebo, who is signed to Akometsi Entertainment stable, said.
Akometsi Marketing Manager Laurent Kwakwala said Deebo would be performing at the second edition of Zanzibar Awards Gala Night for the first time.
“This platform brings together participants from across Africa and, so, this is running alongside the Zanzibar International Youth Tourism Summit, an event by Zanzibar Vacation (Zanvacay) which is utilising support from African Tourism Board and Ministry of Tourism in Zanzibar,” Kwakwala said.
He said this was an opportunity for Deebo to network and meet other young people who are doing well in sectors such as the creative industry.
“She is carrying the Malawi flag at the event, which will attract top government officials. The experience she will bring to Malawi will be a stepping stone in her career. She was also nominated for an award consideration and winning something would be so good for her and Malawi,” Kwakwala said.
