Eli Njuchi creates Kabula memories

Blantyre-based fun seekers had a Sunday full of fun and emotions as youthful artist Eli Njuchi created the memories in his performance at Kabula Diaries at Chichiri Auditorium.

This was Njuchi’s first performance at the facility, but the second for Kabula Diaries to host after poet Q Malewezi.

Deviating from the usual Njuchi performance where you see him jumping up and down, sometimes without shirts, this one was a fusion of orchestra and acapella plus live band performance as he served a two-hour concert.

Backed by the Hive Band, My Soul Acapella, and Magic Strings Orchestra, the artist performed his popular tracks such as ‘Illuminati’, ‘Honest’ and ‘Duwa.

The show reached the climax when Kell Kay made a surprise performance joining Eli Njuchi on stage as they dished out the track titled ‘Loss’, prompting fans to cheer them on.

While the auditorium was blazing fun, silence engulfed the room when Eli Njuchi switched to his track ‘Z’ which he dedicated to the late Saulos Chilima, Soldier Lucius Banda and all the people that lost their lives this year.

“June has been a very tough year. We lost Saulos Chilima, Soldier Lucius Banda, and of course some of you lost your loved ones,” Njuchi said before engaging the audience to light up their phones and sing along.

Clad in a dark-blue suit and black shirt, Njuchi did not skip tracks such as ‘Yabaya’, ‘Tempolare’ and ‘Fumbi’ on his itinerary before he left the stage.

My Soul Acapella also served two songs to the amazement of the fans.

One of the fans, Francis Medson, commended organisers for the show.

“This was really value for our money. Impressive and energetic performance from Eli Njuchi and the team. I came with my family and we enjoyed the show,” he said.

Royal Image Creative Director, Prince Chikweba, said people should expect more entertainment at Kabula Diaries.

“The next one is on October 6 2024 and we will be announcing the act as we are alternating between music and poetry to comedy and many other recreational activities,” Chikweba said.
