Ndirande CCAP’s Chitsitsimutso Choir returned to the stage on Sunday when it launched its 13-track album titled Chimphamba.
Held at Ndirande Makata CCAP in Blantyre, the launch lived up to its billing attracting an impressive audience that enjoyed the gospel vibes from start to finish.
Chitsitsimutso Choir has resurfaced having been out of the spotlight for some time and the launch of their new album is a testimony that the group is still intact.
The choir made headlines early 2000 when it trended with its new approach of blending music with folktales.
The launch kept people on the dance floor with Chitsitsimutso Choir leading the showdown supported by other groups such as Ndirande Makata CCAP choirs Mayesero, Mount Sinai and Kubadwa Kwatsopano.
Chitsitsimutso Choir took people down memory lane when it performed some of its old songs including ‘Ku Zomba’ and ‘Nsato ndi Birimankhwe’.
Clara Ngulube also starred at the launch as the guest artist and also raised the tempo of the show.
Guest of honour Elias Malioni was the highest bidder fetching the album at K850, 000 during auction.
“I thought of supporting the choir because this is a group that we grew up listening to,” Malioni said.
The choir’s director Humphrey Banda was pleased that they had achieved their dreams.
“It has been a long journey and I thank those who have supported us. We promise to continue giving our lovers the music that they love,” Banda said.
