The 2025 NBS Bank Charity Shield match between Silver Strikers and Mighty Wanderers at Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe last Saturday generated K65.7 million from ticket sales and broadcasting rights.
Football Association of Malawi (Fam) announced this yesterday, four days after the match—which served as the curtain-raiser for the 2025 football season.
This represents a 50.6 percent increase after K43.6 million was generated from the 2024 Charity Shield between Silver and FCB Nyasa Big Bullets at the same venue last year.
Fam said, plus the K60 million sponsorship from NBS Bank and K5.1 million from broadcasting rights, the total revenue for the match was K126.8 million.
The association’s president Fleetwood Haiya described the 2025 Charity Shield as a success.
“We extend our sincere gratitude to NBS Bank for increasing their sponsorship [package] from K40 million to K60 million in 2025. We also thank the fans for turning out in large numbers— not only to support their teams but also to contribute to this noble cause. A special mention goes to the teams for their commitment and enthusiasm in helping us raise funds for this worthy initiative,” he said.
The proceeds of this year’s NBS Bank Charity Shield will be channelled towards the health sector, with details yet to be announced.
Silver won the 2025 Charity Shield following a 5-3 victory over Mighty Wanderers on post-match penalties after a 2-2 stalemate in regulation time.
