Blue Eagles underlined their ruthlessness when they deservedly defeated First Choice Tigresses 42- 36 to successfully defend the Salima Sugar National Netball League at Blantyre Youth Centre Sunday.
The three-day national finals started on Friday, with 12 teams competing for the K6 million prize and at the end Eagles triumphed.
In the semifinals, Eagles beat Kukoma Diamonds 37-31 while Tigresses defeated Civonets 51-41.
It was a tight affair but Eagles were above Tigresses in all the departments.
The first quarter ended 9-8 in favour of Eagles, who eventually extended their lead to 22-15 at half time.
In the third quarter, Tigresses pushed their way back into the game to narrow the margin to 30-27 at the end.
The fourth quarter was more intense, with nervousness hitting both sides, leading to silly mistakes as players made unnecessary turnovers.
However, Eagles stood firm to defend the cup.
In a third-place match, Diamonds beat Civonets 48-28 to settle for bronze.
Teams from position four to eight received K500,000 each.
Blantyre City Deputy Mayor Isaac ‘Jomo’ Osman and Malawi National Council of Sports Chief Executive Officer Henry Kamata watched the matches.
