Ascent Soccer starlet in Europe for trials

A window of opportunity has opened for Ascent Soccer and Malawi Women’s National Football Team starlet Faith Chimzimu as she is expected to undergo two-week trials in Europe.

Chimzimu, 18, will start with two-week trials at FC Nordsjælland in Farum before travelling to Uefa Women’s Champions League side Hacken in Sweden.

Ascent founder George Maguire is optimistic that Chimzimu would thrive in Europe.

“Faith has proved herself at every level possible in Malawi. She has great athleticism, breaks lines and has scored goals in every competition she has played in. We are delighted for her to have this European opportunity,” Maguire said.

The talented youngster has emerged as one of the brightest lights in women’s football, both for Ascent Soccer and the Scorchers.

Following her impressive performance for both Ascent and the country, several European clubs are interested in her services.

Ascent Soccer coach Thom Mkolongo said it was a life-time opportunity for Chimzimu.

“She is a top player. Her attitude on and off the pitch is very good. I am confident that she will make it,” Mkolongo said.

Her recent achievements include scoring against Zambia for Malawi in the Scorcher’s 3-2-win last month and winning the golden boot at the 2024 Goshen National Championship, among others.

Then, she helped Ascent win their first ever National Women’s Championship.
