All 16 teams nominate Ronald Chiwaula for Sulom veep

The 16 Super League teams have unanimously nominated Ronald Chiwaula for the position of Super League of Malawi (Sulom) vice president ahead of next month’s annual general meeting (AGM).

This is according to Crowe J&W Auditors, who were mandated by Sulom to oversee the nomination process, in line with Article 21 (2) of the league governing body.

Sulom is expected to fill two positions during the AGM, which is scheduled for March 1 in Mangochi District.

“The exercise was conducted by the Super League clubs up to February 15 2025. We confirmed that, by the set date, we received nominations from 16 clubs and they have nominated MR Ronald Chiwaula,” a statement, which has been signed by Crowe J& W Audit Manager Chifundo Makande, reads.

This means Chiwaula will go unopposed at the league governing body’s AGM.

Makande said following the development, there would be no elections but confirmation.

In reaction to the development Sunday, Chiwaula said he felt humbled and honoured.

“I am really happy that the clubs have shown trust and confidence in me. My role is to advance the interests of the clubs for the good of the game in line with the Revive, Reform and Rebrand agenda,” Chiwaula said.

Apparently, Chiwaula was the only person who showed interest in contesting for the post.

The former Civil Service United general secretary was appointed Sulom vice president after Gilbert Mitawa was elected the league’s governing body president.

Mitawa rose to the position of Sulom president after Fleetwood Haiya was elected Football Association of Malawi (Fam) president in December 2023.

Prior to that, Chiwaula served as Sulom executive committee member after he was elected during elections held in Mangochi in 2023.

The Sulom AGM is also expected to fill the vacant post of executive committee member.

The position fell vacant after Chiwaula was appointed acting president.
