4 stadia fail, 11 pass elite competitions test

Four Super League teams have failed to pass the test to host 2025-26 season elite competitions, with 11 being certified fit, officials have disclosed.

The Football Association of Malawi (Fam) Club Licensing First Instance Body released the list of 11 certified stadia Monday following two stadia inspections in January and March, when experts assessed 16 venues in total.

This is contained in a statement.

The certified stadia are Rumphi, Chitowe (Nkhotakota), Champion (Dowa), Silver (Lilongwe), Nankhaka (Lilongwe), Dedza (Dedza), Kamuzu (Blantyre), Mulanje (Mulanje), Karonga (Karonga), Mzuzu (Mzuzu) and Bingu National (Lilongwe).

Currently, three stadia, namely Dimba [Mchinji], Civo [Lilongwe] and Mpira [Blantyre] have been placed on standby.

Fam Club Licensing Manager Clement Kafwafwa said the three stadia had been put on standby list pending minor improvements which, if addressed, could culminate in them being considered for approval.

However, Balaka and Chitipa stadia have been deemed unfit to host matches.

Kafwafwa said venue owners were given ample time to address deficiencies after an initial inspection in January.

“Following our first inspection, we informed stadium owners of the required standards and necessary improvements for approval. While some addressed the issues, others did not, leading to these results.

“We will continue monitoring the conditions and ensure regulations are adhered to,” Kafwafwa said.

Meanwhile, Super League of Malawi General Secretary Donnex Chilonga has said the delay in communicating the list of approved and rejected stadia will not affect fixtures this week.

“Teams were given a chance to submit two stadia of their choice and not all can be rejected. So, we are happy that, finally, they approved stadia and three are on standby,” Chilonga said.
