The World Bank, a key development partner for Malawi, has reaffirmed its dedication to supporting the country’s quest for widespread electricity access.
The Malawi Electricity Access Project (MEAP) aims to connect both on-grid and off-grid populations, promoting economic growth and development.
Speaking to MIJ Online, Jakob Engel, Acting Country Manager for the World Bank, emphasized the importance of energy in achieving Vision 2063, acknowledging its impact on various sectors.
Engel assured continued support for projects like MEAP, ensuring reliable power connections for all.
And on his part, Ibrahim Matola, Minister of Energy, stressed the need for collective efforts to achieve international targets, including providing electricity to 50% of the population by 2030.
The partnership between the World Bank and Malawi’s government is crucial in realizing this vision, fostering economic progress and improving lives.
