The leadership of the Church of Central Africa Presbyterian (CCAP) Livingstonia Synod has expressed shock at Malawi Police Service (MPS)’s action to arrest one of its ministers, namely Reverend Kondwani Chimbilima Gondwe.
MPS spokesperson Peter Kalaya told The Daily Times of Tuesday this week that they had arrested Chimbilima Gondwe on suspicion that he committed cybercrime-related offences.
“We have arrested Reverend Kondwani Chimbilima Gondwe of Zolozolo CCAP,” he said.
The Daily Times has gathered that Gondwe was arrested in Mzuzu on Monday and was taken to Lilongwe, where he appeared before court for bail application Tuesday.
When he appeared before Lilongwe Principal Resident Magistrate Roderick Michongwe Tuesday, the case was adjourned to Wednesday.
However, circumstances leading to the arrest of the cleric have not pleased Livingstonia and Blantyre synods.
