Malawi National Football Team Coach Patrick Mabedi has beefed up his squad with goalkeeper Williams Thole and defender Maxwell Paipi ahead of Tuesday’s match against Senegal at Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe.
The two players did not travel to Dakar, Senegal, where the Flames were humiliated 4-0 in the Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) qualifiers last Friday.
Thole, who was on the standby list, has replaced goalkeeper Brighton Munthali, who is ineligible for the match following his 16th minute sending off on Friday whereas defender Paipi of Silver Strikers was not on the initial list.
The Mighty Mukuru Wanderers goalkeeper has returned to the Flames fold after almost three years.
He will compete for a starting place with George Chikooka, who has conceded 12 goals in all competitions.
However, Mabedi was not readily available for his comment Sunday.
Mabedi is likely to make several changes to the side that lost 4-0 to Senegal on Friday night.
Players such as Lloyd Aaron, Chimwemwe Idana, Yamikani Chester and Chikooka could start the match.
Meanwhile, the Flames arrived in the country through Kamuzu International Airport in Lilongwe Sunday.
The Flames got straight to business at Bingu National Stadium, where they had a loosening session.
The Flames will be playing for pride as they have no chance of qualifying for the Afcon finals, to be staged in Morocco, next year.
Malawi anchor Group L without a point following three defeats to Burundi (3- 2), Burkina Faso (3-1) and Senegal 4-0.
The team has conceded 10 goals in three matches.
Burkina Faso lead the group with seven points from three matches, above Senegal on goal difference.
Burundi are third with three points.
