Chitoliro Productionz, organisers of Urban Music People (UMP) Festival, has committed to pay tuition fees for 10 students at Cape Maclear Community Day Secondary School (CDSS) in Mangochi District.
Chitoliro Productionz is preparing for this year’s UMP Festival, which is set to run from October 21 to 27 at Cape Maclear.
UMP Festival Chief Executive Officer Aisha De Silva said apart from pledging to pay fees, Chitoliro Productionz donated sanitary pads to students.
De Silva said they were excited to embark on the journey of helping needy students with fees.
“We want to help the government in fighting illiteracy in the country, hence supporting some students at Cape Maclear, where we hold the UMP Festival. We will support these students until they complete their secondary education,” De Silva said.
She also said by supporting the students, they hoped to develop talent through education while encouraging boys and girls to work hard in their studies.
“Our focus is on arts and culture but we want to use this to help nourish other areas such as education,” she said.
During the visit, Chitoliro Productionz also pledged to support 24-year old Neria Mbewe, who is physically challenged, having suffered from cerebral malaria in 2003.
UMP Festival returned to the fold last year, having been out of the limelight for some time. The festival is this year also expected to present awards.
