Chitoliro Productionz, organisers of Urban Music People (UMP) Festival, has appointed Aisha De Silva as chief executive officer.
In a statement, Chitoliro Productionz says De Silva takes up the top position, having been part of the UMP movement from its early days.
“Over the years, she has taken on more strategic roles, including directorial portfolio at last year’s UMP Festival,” the statement reads.
De Silva could not hide her excitement with her new position.
“Aisha is not just stepping into a role; she is carrying forward a legacy. My leadership will honour the festival’s roots while introducing fresh ideas to amplify African voices and celebrate creativity across the continent,” she said.
De Silva described UMP Festival as a tribute to the incredible talent and culture of Malawi in particular and Africa in general.
“I am honoured to lead this next chapter with Lake Malawi as a canvas of inspiration,” she said.
Commenting on the issue, UMP Awards Executive Producer and Chitoliro Productionz Chairperson Ken Limwame said De Silva was fit for purpose.
“Aisha De Silva deserves this position. She has been in the entertainment industry for so long and we are hopeful that she will take UMP to another level,” Limwame, popularly known as Zizwa, said.
UMP Festival will this year be held from October 21 to 27 at Cape Maclear in Mangochi.
This year, the festival also welcomes UMP Music Awards, an event that was last held in 2020.
