Malawi Women’s National Football Team Coach Lovemore Fazili has named a 38-member provisional squad for the 2024 Cosafa Women’s Championship slated for October 22 to November 2 in Gqeberha, South Africa.
Fazili has included France-based striker Tabitha Chawinga and her sister Temwa Chawinga, who is based in the United States (US).
Tabitha, who provided two assists for Olympique Lyonnais in a 3-0 victory over Galatasaray in the Uefa Women’s Champions League on Tuesday, missed the 2023 edition due to club commitments.
Then, Temwa inspired the Scorchers to their first ever Cosafa Women’s Championship tittle following a 2-1 victory over Zambia.
Fazili has also given a maiden call-up to US-based Choma Okafo, whereas Rose Kabzere, who has just joined French side Montpellier, is also in the squad.
The TP Mazembe duo of striker Sabina Thom and defender Chimwemwe Madise, Green Buffaloes striker Vanesa Chikupira, Rwanda-based striker Mary Chabvinda and Zambia-based striker Vitumbiko Mkandawire are in the squad.
