In the media category, The Times Group journalists Mabvuto Kambuwe and Peter Fote won the best print and best television journalist awards respectively.

Speaking as the guest of honour during the event, Minister of Youth and Sports Uchizi Mkandawire said the government was committed to developing football in the country.

“I assure the nation that the government will continue working hand in hand with TNM and other partners to develop football in the country. The league has been instrumental in the development of football in Malawi,” Mkandawire said.

He commended TNM for continuing to sponsor the league.

TNM Chief Executive Officer Michel Herbert said the company will continue sponsoring the league in the years to come.

“Football brings a lot of people together. It is one of the things that creates excitement among many people and we are proud as TNM. We are prepared to do more because this is the future of Malawian football,” Michel said.

Football Association of Malawi president Fleetwood Haiya said he expects members of Parliament to approve direct funding to national football teams in the country.

“We believe our members of Parliament are going to approve the direction you have asked to take in funding the national teams directly. It is going to help us a lot in transforming the game of football in Malawi,” Haiya said.

Super League of Malawi vice president Ronald Chiwaula said Sulom was geared to develop the game in the league to ensure that it remains competitive and exciting for supporters.

Chiwaula encouraged the awardees and Silver Strikers to do more in the upcoming football season.

“Silver Strikers have shown remarkable resilience as they lost only one game and we congratulate you for that. As we applaud the achievements of the individuals and teams, let us also look to the future for the revival of the game,” Chiwaula said.

TNM sponsors the league to the tune of K500 million per season.
