Queens ready to face SA in Spar Challenge Test Series

By Mphatso Malidadi & Llywellenie Mpasa:

Malawi National Netball Team Coach Joanna Kachilika has expressed confidence in her squad’s readiness for the Spar Challenge International Netball Test Series against South Africa.

The Queens are expected to leave the country this morning through Chileka International Airport in Blantyre for Johannesburg where they will take on South Africa in three Test Matches slated for October 31, November 2 and 3 at Ellis Park Arena, in Johannesburg.

Kachilika has maintained a 15-member squad which comprises six senior players and members of the Malawi Under-21 National Netball Team.

Kachilika, speaking on Saturday after the Queens defeated male netball side Akabawi 74-54 at Kamuzu University of Health Sciences (Kuhes) Sports Complex, said her charges were tactically and physically ready for the challenge.

“We have prepared thoroughly and I believe the team has made significant improvements in all areas we have been working on,” Kachilika said.

The game highlighted the squad’s improved synergy on the court, as well as their agility and ability to execute strategies effectively.

“Our game against Akabawi gave us the chance to put our game plans into practice and the outcome was promising. The players have shown discipline and consistency in training and I am confident they will deliver in South Africa,” Kachilika said.

The showdown promises to be intense as South Africa aims to defend its dominance after defeating Malawi in the 2020 Spar Challenge Series.

The friendly match was made possible by Chibuku Products Limited (CPL), who sponsored the test match through their non-alcoholic beverage Super Maheu, as part of their commitment in supporting the Queens.

CPL Marketing Manager Henry M’bweza, emphasized the company’s pride in backing the national team.

“We dedicated our efforts to empower the Queens as they embark on this critical journey to represent Malawi,” M’bweza said.
