Malawi National Netball Team endured a bad outing after they lost all three test matches with wide margins in South Africa.
The hosts, South Africa, completed a clean sweep with the drubbing of Malawi Queens with a resounding 69- 24 victory at Ellis Park Arena in Johannesburg Sunday to win the Spar Challenge International Test Series.
It is the worst defeat for the Queens against South Africa in four years as it has overshadowed the team’s loss in 2020 when the side went down 69-28 at Sun City.
The only solace for the Queens was that vic captain Thandie Galeta was named best centre; otherwise, South Africa dominated the rest of individual accolades.
Queens coach Joanna Kachilika made one change to the team which started on Saturday with Aisha Gama replacing Shabel Bengo in defence, whereas captain Towera Vinkhumbo and Martha Dambo were maintained.
In attack, the Queens relied on shooter Tendai Masamba and goal-attacker Ethel Ng’ambi with Florence Gamuka and Galeta linking the two departments.
The first quarter ended with Queens trailing 16-7 before the hosts extended the lead to 31-11 at half time.
The third quarter ended with South Africa leading 37- 15.
Throughout the match, the Queens kept on trying different faces and combinations but the more they did, the more they fell.
Kachilika conceded defeat and promised to rectify the mistakes.
The Queens travelled to South Africa with support of their new sponsor Nico Group.
