Poets resurface with ‘Phwando La Ndakatulo’

By Stevie Muliya:

Poets return to the stage next month after a long silence bringing a feast billed Phwando La Ndakatulo.

The event will be held at Mibawa Multipurpose Hall in Blantyre on July 8 2024.

Chairperson of the organizing committee of the poetry feast, Kenneth Khondiwa, said on Monday that the event is one way of revamping poetry which he indicated has lost its steam.

“We have been quiet for too long and so, we decided to come back. Again poetry lovers have been on us calling for poetry events,” Khondiwa of the ‘Anaponda Ndi Mapazi Satana’, said.

He said in the past years poetry was vibrant but now the trend has changed and that they want to recreate the past feats.

One of the poets set to perform, Sylvester Kalizang’oma famed for ‘Unkalindanji Moyo’, called upon poetry lovers to come in large numbers and enjoy verses once again.

“It is essential to revive poetry because it holds immense significance in our lives. Poetry allows us to explore our deepest emotions and connect with others who have experienced the same. Through poetry, we communicate across time and space, sharing our inner worlds”, he said.

Kalizang’oma said people should brace for a high class of his performance that will see him performing both new and old poems.

Apart from Kalizang’oma and Khondiwa, other poets set to perform at the event include Raphael Sitima, Hudson Chamasowa, Micheal Benjala, Joseph Madzedze, Aisha Samson and Frank Naligonje.
