Flames attacking midfielder Patrick Mwaungulu has starred for Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) giants TP Mazembe, having scored three goals in pre-season friendlies.
Mwaungulu, alongside compatriot Lanjesi Nkhoma, is hoping to sign contracts with the Lubumbashi-based side after completing medicals.
The talented youngster scored one goal as Mazembe beat Maillet FC 5-0 at Fukuta Farm, the base for Katumbi Football Academy.
“Filly Traore scored a hat-trick in 45 minutes. Patrick Mwaungulu—a very good attacking midfielder of Malawian nationality— and Ousmane Kamissoko completed the score against a very combative opponent,” Mazembe wrote on their Facebook page.
Lanjesi has also impressed for Mazembe.
Mazembe’s local representative, Felix Ngamanya Sapao, is confident that the two players will sign deals by the end of this week.
“The General Manager, Frederic Kitengie, is away in Kinshasa. We should complete everything once he arrives on Tuesday. I have been assured by the coach, Lamine Ndiaye, that Lanjesi and Patrick will be offered contracts,” Sapao said.
Mwaungulu and Nkhoma have joined former Flames midfielder Joseph Kamwendo and striker Luka Bruno Milanzie, who also had stints with the five-time Caf Champions League winners.
Mazembe decided against signing Mighty Mukuru Wanderers defender Lawrence Chaziya after he did not impress the club’s hierarchy. Chaziya is back in the country.
