In a drive that is aimed at disseminating messages on post-abortion awareness, Paragon Arts on Saturday staged a play titled Shattered Silence at Dima Community in Lilongwe.
The performance was part of their continued performances, using art to reach out to people on sexual reproductive health issues.
The interactive production starred actors such as veteran Edwin Chonde.
The audience also had a chance to ask questions in order to understand some issues.
One of the people who patronised the event, Salome Yeremiya, said the messages were timely.
“We need these messages because they are important as regards our day-to-day life. I should commend the group for telling it in a way that was very interesting,” Yeremiya said.
Group Village Headman Dima said that the play inspired them to make a difference when girls experience abortion complications.
“We will share the information we obtained about post-abortion care with the entire community and nearby areas,” Dima said.
Paragon Arts Director Philmon Kuipa hailed people for showing up for the performance.
“Apart from the entertainment side, we are happy that people were attentive and asked questions. Gone are the days when art was only looked at as part of fun but now people understand that this is a tool for creating conversations on important issues to bring about change,” Kuipa said.
Paragon Arts launched the post-abortion care project in November last year.
