Pam Southern Region Chapter in environmental conservation drive

Poetry Association of Malawi (Pam) Southern Region Chapter on Saturday took advantage of International Mother Language Day when it embarked on a tree planting exercise at Chilomoni Primary School in Blantyre.

Pam Southern Region Chapter Chairperson Luckier Chikopa has since described the exercise as vital.

She said it was meant to encourage learners to plant trees as well as inculcate a spirit of conserving the environment in them.

“We planted trees as well as reminded learners on the importance of linguistic diversity.

“We, as Pam, bought various types of trees which wildlife club members planted at their school,” Chikopa said.

The ‘Mamuna Ndi Mbalame’ creator said they would continue to embark on such initiatives.

“We are thankful to Blantyre Arts Festival, which partnered us in this exercise. We are on a mission of using poetry to bring about change and we want to pursue, initiate, promote and revitalise and sustain poetry culture,” she said.

During the tree planting exercise, Pam ambassadors combined messages on the importance and benefits of tree planting and Mother Language Day.

Chilomoni Primary School Head teacher Patricia Chingwale thanked Pam and Blantyre Arts Festival organisers for the tree-planting exercise.

“Our wildlife club has been encouraged to do more in environmental conservation activities,” Chingwale said
