Call it coming of age for celebrated musician Patience Namadingo as he successfully held a sold- out solo concert at Khichini Hub in Lilongwe on Saturday.
Setting the pace with his latest release ‘Tuli’, the singer and guitarist— in his newest hair-do and casual attire of a white shirt and black pair of trousers—performed for hours. Namadingo’s concert deviated from the usual shows that have more artists on the bill, underlying his strength in the creative industry.
In fact, the plan was that the show would only run on Saturday but due to public demand, the artist arranged for another concert yesterday at the same venue.
Dubbed The Doc Live, the artist raised the tempo of the show once he jumped on stage and kept the audience lively By Jimmy Chazama throughout.
As if expressing gratitude to God for the impressive patronage, Namadingo opened his itinerary on the night with ‘Mumapemphero’, a track in which he collaborated with Temwa, Gwamba and Lawi.
However, the three were not present. Namadingo performed for close to an hour, serving songs such as ‘Ng’wi Ng’wi’ and ‘Mapulani’ before taking a short break. He came back for his second part, which followed a warm-up by VJ Ice.
It was during his second chapter that the artist, who has millions of followers on social media, dished the new track ‘Tuli’. This is a track that has garnered millions of views on YouTube and, as such, once he introduced it, the audience could not hold it but sing along.
In the track, which was performed a number of times due to patrons’ demand, Namadingo is praising God for all the good things He has done for him.
One of the organisers of the show, Shane Kondowe, said the show lived up to its billing and that, for them, it was all about changing the narrative.
“We are trying to experiment and also move away from having huge lineups of artists, which at times denies the audience the opportunity to enjoy performances to the fullest,” Kondowe said.
He said, this year, they planned to hold more concerts as part of giving music enthusiasts the much-needed fun.
“We also have plans to use the venue for arts and crafts because the place suits an urban and African environment. The venue has more space and, as such, we will utilise it,” Kondowe said
