Artists, both established and budding, came together to showcase their abilities and set Masintha Ground in Lilongwe on fire during the fourth edition of Mathumela Music Festival on Sunday.
Spearheaded by renowned singer, guitarist and producer Lulu, the musical feast turned out to be a perfect warm-up for fun lovers ahead of the festive season.
The massive audience, dominated by young people, sang along to the songs, served by close to 40 artists.
They danced all the way during the free-of charge festival.
Apart from Lulu and Mathumela Band, the other artists that performed included Kell Kay, Charisma, Born African, Mr Zembani, Kellie Divine and Emmie Deebo.
One of the highlights of the event was Mr Zembani’s performance, when he rekindled memories of his father, Soldier Lucius Banda, by serving some of his songs.
There was actually a special moment when Lulu, a former member of Lucius’ Zembani Band, joined Mr Zembani on stage to play the guitar for some of the songs.
Lulu received support from various players, including politicians, who supported him with money.
The artist, who created the festival with the aim of inspiring young people to utilise their talents, said he was satisfied with this year’s edition.
“Now fans are asking that we add international artists next year and we will look into that,” he said.
Lulu also plans to support up-and-coming artists by producing their music.
He said the event is one way of supporting emerging artists from Kawale and surrounding areas.
One of the attendees, Iness Malinera from Kawale, said she enjoyed the event.
“The sound was good and I liked the performances,” Malinera said.
