Film Association of Malawi (Fama) President Dorothy Kingston has said that it is now time for the new leadership to get started with work following the handover by the previous committee led by Gift Sukez Sukali.
The handover was made on Sunday in Lilongwe with the new National Executive Committee (Nec) getting blessings to run the affairs of the association from Sukali.
“We are grateful for a seamless handover by the outgoing president, who flew in from United States of America to pass the baton. Let us get started,” Kingston, a renowned fashionistas and entrepreneur said.
She hailed the smooth transition saying it was important for them to understand where their predecessors left off.
“We will build upon their achievements and forge a new path forward.
The focus is on growth and development but we can only overcome the challenges if we work as a
team,” Kingston said.
She said Fama is more than an organisation and that it is a community and a family bonded together by the passion for film.
“Transparency and accountability will be key to our success. We are here to build the industry so that it produces quality films and conquer the international stage,” Kingston, wife to Amapiano star Zeze, said.
Sukali advised the new committee to fulfill its manifesto.
“We have handed over our responsibilities and people expect to see change from the new leadership. We encourage the new team to involve other companies and grow the association,” he said
Sukali assured that the previous leadership will always be available to offer guidance wherever necessary.
Kingston took over the presidency from Sukali recently after beating Flora Suya during polls.
Other members of Nec include Gilbert Moyo, who is the deputy president having succeeded Ashukile Mwakisulu, Ignatious Kaphinde (secretary), Charles Levison (vice secretary) and Daud Shaib (treasurer general).
