Malawi Women’s National Football Team defending midfielder Leticia Chinyamula’s impressive performance at the ongoing Cosafa Women’s Championship in South Africa has earned her recognition with a place in the best 11.
The team was selected after conclusion of group stage matches early this week.
Chinyamula scored a hat-trick during Malawi’s 9-0 hammering of Mauritius on Monday.
The result helped the Scorchers to secure top spot in Group B and advance to the semifinals with seven points.
Council of Southern African Football Associations (Cosafa) released the group stage best 11 Wednesday.
Other midfielders in the line-up are Zenatha Coleman of Namibia and Botswana’s Keitumitse Dithebe.
The list has Asandas Hadebe of South Africa, Bokang Ntsane from Lesotho, Zambia’s Pauline Zulu and Zimbabwean Nobukhosi Ncube in defence.
Kasha Hendrix of Banyana Banyana and the Zambian duo of Ochumba Lubadji and Fridah Mukoma have been named in the line-up as strikers.
Cosafa has named South African Nambuso Maud Khumalo as the team’s coach.
Chinyamula, who won the Cosafa most improved player award last year, said she was happy to be among the best eleven players in the group stages at the competition.
“It feels great to be among the best. I thank my teammates for their teamwork which has helped us to go through to the semifinals. We must work hard now to reach the final and win the trophy again. I need to do more to help my team to win,” she said.
Scorchers date Zambia in a crunching tie that kicks off at noon.
