Nyau King Tay Grin says international trips he undertakes have the potential to put Malawi on the world map.
“While it is true that many of my performances abroad draw Malawian audiences, they include diverse communities who are curious about African music and culture,” he said.
He said this balance allows him to act as a cultural ambassador.
“When I perform in countries such as the United Kingdom or the United States, I connect with Malawians in the diaspora who long for a taste of home.
“These shows offer them a sense of belonging and pride in our shared heritage. But, at the same time, I intentionally bring elements of our culture to the shows,” Tay Grin said.
Over the weekend, Tay Grin held two shows in the UK.
The artist will be leaving the UK on Thursday for USA for performances on December 14 and then December 15 at the African Achievement Awards.
Tay Grin’s itinerary also indicates that he will perform in Zambia on December 28.
