Heaven comes down at Easter show

An impressive audience got dipped in praise and worship for more than six hours at Sunbird Mount Soche Hotel in Blantyre as paradise came down during the inaugural The Easter Experience organised by Revive and Worship Concert.

On a Holy Saturday which falls between Good Friday and Easter Sunday, people braved biting weather to glorify God through praise and worship. T

he Easter Experience, hosted by Angel Chima, Stevie Muliya and Peter Bodole, served a cast of musicians in Blantyre Baptist Praise Team, Annette Nandine, Chigo Grace, Beracah and Kelvin Sings, Theresa Phondo, Praise Umali, Frank Chimpanzi and Paul Kachala, among others.

In the early hours, Muliya, as host, also breathed life into the concert with a short set followed by Nandine, Blantyre Baptist Praise Team, Chigo Grace and Beracah and Kelvin Sings.

Phondo was next and she, too, raised the tempo of the concert when she served a number of songs including ‘Yewo’, ‘Testimony’ and her recent release ‘Daily’. “This is my first time to perform in Blantyre as a solo artist. I am overwhelmed with the support,” the former Zathu Band member said in between her performance.

Umali, another Zathu member product, took over from Phondo and, armed with his acoustic guitar, opened his act with ‘Mukadalitsa’, which had the audience singing along before offering other well known choruses.

Chimpanzi rekindled memories and, backed by his Word Alive team, continued from where Umali had left off, soaking the audience in a praise and worship mood with tracks such as ‘Sangalala’, before paving the way for Kachala, who closed the curtain.

One of the members of the organising team from Classic Events, Edson Kawalala, said he was speechless with the turnout. “Blantyre has supported us and, this being the Easter period, this was the experience we wanted them to get.

This is just the beginning; we want to be doing it twice a year and we are also looking into the issue of bringing international artists,” Kawalala said.
