Inkosi ya Makosi Gomani V has announced the cancellation of this year’s Umhlangano wa Maseko Ngoni annual cultural gathering, citing the June 10 2024 death of former vice president Saulos Chilima, who was an Impi, and musician Lucius Banda as the ground.
Gomani V made the announcement at his Lizulu headquarters in Ntcheu District yesterday.
“We lost two Maseko Ngoni sons who were influential in our cultural and traditional activities,” he said.
He added that Maseko Ngonis would mourn the two people for three months.
“Umhlangano falls within the mourning period.
“As for our brothers and sisters who are holding annual cultural gatherings, we will be sending representatives to such events, albeit without our Maseko Ngoni dancers,” he said.
This year’s event was scheduled for September 5 to 7 in Nkolimbo Village, Traditional Authority Kwataine, Ntcheu District.
