Germany Ambassador to Malawi, Ute Konig, has reiterated her country’s commitment to supporting the country’s creative and tourism development.
Konig said this recently when she visited Gwirize Cultural Village Salima where she was treated to traditional dances including Gule Wamkulu.
She said she was impressed with the traditional dances that she sampled at Gwirize Cultural Village describing them as rich and educative. Konig said the cultural village has the potential to enhance Malawi’s economic status.
“I have enjoyed every moment here, this cultural village is crucial in enhancing Malawi’s tourism as well as promoting and preserving culture. I call upon people to visit it,” she said.
Noah Chana, who leads Gwirize Cultural Village and is also a Councillor, hailed the Germany Ambassador for taking her time to visit them.
“The Germany Ambassador’s visit means a lot to our cultural village and it cements the relationship between Malawi and Germany in fostering tourism development,” Chana said.
Gwirize Cultural Village was established in 2005 with GIZ supporting it in 2022 by constructing an Amphitheatre and toilets.
The cultural village provides an experience for visitors to appreciate village life and at the same time serves as a platform for local artisans and cultural practitioners to showcase their work.
