French side Montpellier Herault Sports Club dared Malawi Women’s National Football Team blossoming midfielder Rose Kabzere to prove her prowess after the youthful attacker completed a three-year deal.

Kabzere has joined the club on a three-year deal from Lilongwe’s Ascent Soccer Academy.

However, Montpellier president Laurent Nicolin was excited to sign the first Malawian player in the club’s history.
“I am thrilled with Rose arrival. It is now up to her to bring her freshness to the field and we are hopeful that Rose will deliver a lot to our attack,” Nicolin said.
Kabzere is now the second Malawian player in French D1Arkema after Scorchers captain Tabitha Chawinga, who joined Olympique Lyonnais from Chinese side Wuhan Jianghan.
Ascent Soccer co-founder George Maguire was excited with Kabzere’s move to Europe.
“Rose is a special footballer, who has made most of her development opportunity on the pitch as Ascent Soccer. This moment is a testament to Rose hard work and dedication to the game, and she is paving the way for the emerging talent of Malawi and Ascent Soccer,” Maguire said.
Tabitha, who won the Women’s Footballer of the Year in France, while on loan at Paris Saint Germain, hailed Kabzere for her exploits.
“Congratulations Rose Kabzere for joining Montpellier Herault Sport Club. Wishing you success,” Tabitha wrote on her Facebook page.
Football Association of Malawi (Fam) President Fleetwood Haiya was also excited.
“We are incredibly proud of you, Rose, and we wish you great success as you embark on this exciting new chapter in your career,” Haiya said.
Kabzere was an influential player for the Scorchers as they won their first ever Cosafa Women’s Championship after beating Zambia 2-1 in South Africa.
She was nominated for the 2023 Cosafa Women’s most promising player award which her teammate Leticia Chinyamula won during the Cosafa inaugural awards.
Kabzere won the Cosafa Under-17 Women’s Championship golden boot award after scoring eight goals at Bingu National Stadium in 2022. She inspired the team to win bronze during the competition which was part of the Region 5 Youth Games.
