Fresh from their 2-1 victory over cross-town rivals Mighty Mukuru Wanderers in the FDH Bank Cup, FCB Nyasa Big Bullets turn their attention to the TNM Super League as they face Bangwe All Stars at Mpira Stadium this afternoon.
Bullets have been inconsistent in the league this season, with four wins, eight draws and two losses from 14 matches. This afternoon, they will hope to translate their cup form into the league.
However, Bangwe are always unpredictable.
Bullets Coach Kalisto Pasuwa said the victory in the cup would inspire his players in the TNM Super League.
“These are two different competitions and the approach is also different. But, mindset-wise, I believe the win will motivate the players,” Pasuwa said.
Bullets are currently sixth on the league table with 20 points from 14 matches. A victory over Bangwe could see them rise to third place, after Kamuzu Barracks lost 4-1 to Chitipa United.
A positive result against Bangwe could also reduce the gap to leaders Silver Strikers to 14 points.
Silver are the only unbeaten side so far and finished the first round with a goalless draw against Moyale Barracks on Sunday.
Bangwe coach Rodgers Yasin said revenge is his mission for this afternoon.
“We lost 5-0 to Bullets in the FDH Bank Cup, so we will go all out against them. This is a different game and we are ready,” Yasin said.
His side is currently stuck in the relegation zone with nine points from 14 matches.
Last season, Bullets defeated Bangwe 2-0 and 1-0 in their two league encounters.
Elsewhere, Creck Sporting Club will host Dedza Dynamos at Civo Stadium this afternoon.
Meanwhile, midfielder Lloyd Aaron and Patrick Mwaungulu were named Hubertus Clausius Players of the Month for May and June, respectively.
Aaron received his award yesterday, while Mwaungulu was honoured in absentia as he is on the verge of joining TP Mazembe in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
Each received K300,000 plus miniatures.
