Relief was the prevalent emotion as FCB Nyasa Big Bullets registered their fourth win of the season in the TNM Super League Wednesday.
To chalk that long-awaited win, they had to defeat rookies Fomo FC 3-0 at Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre Wednesday.
The victory means Bullets have ended their four-match winless streak in the TNM Super League.
Following the win, the Blantyre-based side has moved to position five with 20 points from 13 matches, 10 points behind leaders Silver Strikers, who are expected to host Mzuzu City Hammers at Silver Stadium in Lilongwe this afternoon.
After struggling to find the back of the net in the league this season, Bullets ran riot against the Mulanje-based rookies.
Maxwell Gasten Phodo scored his first goal of the season in the 14th minute of the match before Nigerian striker Babatunde Adepoju doubled the lead in the 39th minute.
Out of 13 matches, Bullets have won four, lost once and drawn eight times—their worst start to a season in six years.
Coach Kalisto Pasuwa was relieved with the win and felt his charges deserved the victory.
“Although we did not play well but the most important thing is the three points. I think the win will motivate the players and fans, who went to the extent of running away from us in difficult times,” Pasuwa said.
He is looking for his sixth consecutive title in domestic football.
On his part, Fomo Coach Gilbert Chirwa rued missed chances.
“We played well in the second half but failed to utilise our chances,” Chirwa said.
Nickson Nyasulu was named player of the match.
In another match played Wednesday, Civil Service United came from behind to beat Creck Sporting Club 2-1 at Civo Stadium in the administrative capital.
George Chaomba netted for Creck in the 30th minute but Civil scored two goals in the last 15 minutes of the match to upset the TNM Super League newcomers.
It all started with Muhammad Biason, who equalised for Civo in the 75th minute.
Chifundo Ngapemba then netted the winner at the stroke of full time.
The loss was a blow to Creck, who had a chance to go second in the league.
Instead, they descended to position six with 19 points from 13 matches.
Civil are eighth with 18 points.
Elsewhere, Mafco’s resurgence in the TNM Super League continued Wednesday following their 2-0 victory over Karonga United at Chitowe Ground.
Innocent Makawano and Auspicious Kadzongola were on target for the Salima-based soldiers.
Mafco have moved to position seven with 19 points from 13 matches.
Action is set to continue this afternoon, as second-placed Mighty Mukuru Wanderers will be looking to bounce back from the 2-1 defeat to Moyale Barracks last week.
They host Chitipa United at Kamuzu Stadium.
The Nomads have a score to settle against Chitipa, having lost 1-0 to Chitipa at the same venue last season.
