The 2024 Fam Beach Soccer League is scheduled to kick off next week in all the five playing zones.
Beach Soccer Association President Gift Chimbalanga said logistical arrangements for commencement of the competition are at an advanced stage.
Chimbalanga said they delayed the kick-off due to rising water levels along Lake Malawi.
He said the league would help the national team technical panel to identify players ahead of the Total Energies Africa Cup of Nations Beach Soccer finals in Egypt in October this year.
’’The league will help to keep our players active. It will also help the coaches to identify new players for the national team,’’ Chimbalanga said.
Football Association of Malawi’s (Fam) sponsorship of the league is worth K45 million.
Malawi National Beach Soccer team made it to the continental finals after beating Burundi 15-14 on aggregate.
Coach Willy Kumilambe said the league would help him assess some of the players.
’’It will be good for us to have all the players in shape ahead of the Afcon finals. We also need to beef up our squad, so the league will help us to identify more players to be considered for finals,’’ Kumilambe said.
