Creck Sporting Club suspend MacDonald Mtetemera again

Creck Sporting Club has suspended coach MacDonald Mtetemera for the second time this season following what the team termed a poor run in the TNM Super League.

The decision comes six weeks after Mtetemera was reinstated from a previous suspension.

However, both Mtetemera and the club’s board chairperson Muhammad Selemani were reluctant to divulge full details.

Selemani said the club wrote Mtetemera on Monday, summoning him to appear before the board on Friday.

“The issue is about the team’s performance. We are not impressed with the way the team is performing. Let us wait until Friday after the hearing for full details,” Selemani said.

On his part, Mtetemera was disappointed with the development, fearing his reputation was being compromised, which might affect his coaching career.

“I will advise you to talk to Selemani on the issue you have raised. He is the one who can tell you everything. As for my part, call on Saturday,” he said.

Creck have been struggling since Mtetemera was reinstated having played six matches without a win, a development which led the team to drop from third position to 10 with 32 points from 23 matches.

Creck officials held a meeting with technical staff and the players to find reasons behind the decline in form of the team after the team lost to Karonga United 1-0 at Aubrey Dimba Stadium in Mchinji on Saturday.

In July, Mtetemera was suspended pending investigations on grounds that the newly promoted TNM Super League team was performing poorly and he was replaced by his assistant Joseph Kamwendo.

Creck spent about K30 million on beefing up the squad after the club earned Super League promotion.

In a mid-season transfer window, Creck reinforced the side by signing former Mighty Wanderers duo of Muhammad Sulumba and Vincent Nyangulu.

Meanwhile, analyst Frank Chakanga said Creck should make a decision whether the club still wants Mtetemera’s services.

“It seems things are not going well in the team. It is clear that there are divisions among the players and coaches but being their maiden season, I think they should not be in a hurry to win trophies,” Chakanga said.

The latest development means that Kamwendo will be in charge when Creck face Civil Service United at Civo Stadium on Saturday.
