Civil beef up technical panel

Civil Service United have appointed former Flames striker James Chimphepo as the team’s technical advisor with immediate effect.

The club’s chief executive officer Edgar Chipalanjira confirmed the development Tuesday.

Chipalanjira said Chimphepo, formerly of defunct MDC United, will be helping the coaching panels for all the teams including senior and women’s sides

“This will help us in dealing with the striking problem since he is coming with immense experience as a former goal poacher himself.

“Secondly, we have sent our second assistant coach Charles Ben and women’s team manager Linda Kasenda for advanced coaching courses,” Chipalanjira said.

Chimphepo will be providing an advisory role to Civil technical panel led by Abasi Makawa and Wilson Chidati.

Chipalanjira said with the addition of Chimphepo in the technical panel set-up, he is optimistic that the team will finish in the top four of the TNM Super League this season.

“We feel we will improve our performance in the second round as we eye our dream of finishing in the top four,” he said.

Chimphepo was not readily available for his comment yesterday.

In an interview, Makawa said he was ready to work with Chimphepo.

“We have worked together on several assignments. He has vast experience and he will bring something new to the club,’’ Makawa said.

Civil are on position nine on the 16-member log table with 24 points from 18 matches. They are five points behind fourth-placed Creck Sporting Club, who have played 17 matches.

Civil are 20 points behind TNM Super League leaders Silver Strikers who have also played 17 matches.

The Lilongwe-based club has gone nine years without winning any silverware.
