Two camps have emerged ahead of the National Football Coaches Association (NFCA) elective annual general meeting (EAGM) slated for Salima District on March 22.
Incumbent chairperson Aubrey Nankhuni and Central Region Football Coaches Committee (CRFCC) Chairperson Audlow Makonyola have secured two nominations each ahead of the polls, an indication that it would be a tight race.
Nankhuni has received nominations from Southern and Northern region coach committees, with Makonyola collecting his from Central and Eastern region coaches’ bodies.
Makonyola said time had come for the association to wear a new face.
“Firstly, let me thank all those who supported my agenda and gave me nominations. I will not disappoint when elected chairperson,” he said.
On his part, Nankhuni said he was unmoved with Makonyola’s emergence.
“It is all about relationships and knowing coaches’ needs. I have done a lot, including introducing coaches’ identity cards and opening bank accounts both at national and regional level.
“I also championed the establishment of district committees and promoted the Eastern Region to be a regional committee,” Nankhuni said.
The seasoned Germany-trained coach also boasts of engaging a lawyer to represent coaches on disputes with their employers.
“I strongly believe that I have unfinished business. I believe I have done enough to earn their vote so that I should continue implementing the newly launched strategic plan. This is to ensure that the coaches association is on the right track, mainly on youth development programmes,” Nankhuni said.
The battle for the vice chairperson post will be between MacNebert Kadzuwa and Moses Chimbetete whereas Sullivan Kandulu will face Kondwa Ikwanga for the post of general secretary.
Millias Pofera Jegwe and Patrick Cheruwa have been nominated for the post of publicity secretary.
The battle for the treasurer’s post will be between MacMilan Maziya and Davie Mpima while Trevor Kajawa and Rabson Mtonga have been nominated for the post of vice treasurer.
Karen Chaula, Scholastica Khungwa and Stella Chingwalu have earned nominations as ladies’ representatives while Hastings Msowoya and Joel Mhango have earned nominations as executive members
