Art Malawi in partnership with GIZ Malawi and Airport Development Limited has unveiled three metal artwork installations at Kamuzu International Airport in Lilongwe.
The beautiful pieces made from recycled scrap metal have been crafted by Blantyre-based artist Samuel Ndalema.
Ndalema is not a new name in the creative realm as he has soured with his works to use scrap metals to create amazing artworks showcasing the beauty of art and at the same time, promoting environmental conservation.
The artworks of an elephant, rhino and giraffe at the airport showcase the perfect blend of art and sustainability.
The installations, which are part of a larger national art project covering six sites across the country, have transformed the airport’s ambience, making it more welcoming and visually appealing entry point for visitors.
Ndalema expressed excitement at seeing his artworks on display at the airport.
“I am honoured to be part of this project which not only showcases my art but also contributes to the beautification of the airport,” he said.
Manota Mphande from Art Malawi said it is a dream come true for them to finally see the beautiful pieces at the airport. “We are thrilled to bring art to this important public space. These installations showcase the beauty of Malawian art and culture, while also highlighting the importance of sustainability,” Mphande said.
