Chippa United and Malumo Gallants have joined the chase for Flames experienced striker Frank Gabadinho Mhango in the ongoing international transfer window.
The two teams have joined SuperSport United, who have been long-term admirers of the experienced striker.
South African media reported that following the sale of Moroka Swallows to Gallants, it remains to be seen if the current players and technical staff will stay or if new owner Abram Sello will make changes.
www.Kickoff.com reported that Chippa are lining up big signings including Mhango, Bongani Zungu and Andile Jalli ahead of the upcoming season.
“Both Mhango and Jali were on the books of Moroka Swallows last season. These would be marquee signings for the side, who could attract more bums on seats for the home games considering their profile,” www.kickoff.com reported.
In an interview on Sunday, Mhango’s manager Mike Makaab confirmed that both Malumo and Chippa are interested in the talented Malawian striker.
“We are talking to them about Mhango,” Makaab said in a written response.
Following the sale of Swallows to Gallants, the club will relocate to Bloemfontein, Free State.
This means Mhango could return to Free State, where he started his career in South Africa after moving to Bloemfontein Celtic from Nyasa Big Bullets in 2014.
Since then, Mhango has played for several clubs including Orlando Pirates, Bidvest Wits, Amazulu, Swallows and Golden Arrows.
South Africa-based Malawian journalist Benjamin Nyirenda said Mhango could be a perfect fit for SuperSport.
“I would prefer him to play for SuperSport because it is one of the well-managed clubs,” Nyirenda said.
Mhango scored seven goals for Swallows last season.
