3 local teams invited to Mozambique

Three local teams, namely Mighty Wanderers, Civil Service United and Creck Sporting Club, have been invited to Mozambique for pre-season tournaments.

Wanderers and Civil will take part in a four-team tournament scheduled to run from this Friday to Tuesday in Tete, Mozambique.

The tournament will involve hosts UD Songo, Wanderers, Civil and CD Chingale.

Wanderers Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Panganeni Ndovi said the tournament would help them in many aspects as they prepare for the upcoming season.

“The matches will provide competitive gametime for our players, helping them build match fitness and sharpness before the season starts.

“The technical team will have the opportunity to assess different formations, strategies and player combinations against strong opposition,” Ndovi said.

Ndovi said the trip would also enable the technical panel to evaluate squad depth.

“It will allow us to test new signings and fringe players to ensure we have adequate squad depth for the challenges ahead.

“Playing together in a high-level competition will help improve cohesion and understanding among players,” he said.

The Nomads have signed goalkeeper Chancy Mtete, defender Masiya Manda, midfielder Nanison Mbewe, strikers Promise Kamwendo and Blessings Mwalilino.

Wanderers will open the football season against Silver Strikers in the Fam Charity Shield on March 29.

Civil CEO Edgar Chipalanjira confirmed the development.

“Currently, we are working on logistics and, as such, details will be communicated later,” he said.

In a related development, Creck will take part in a two-day bonanza scheduled for this Saturday to Sunday in Lichinga, Mozambique.

The club’s official Facebook page announced the news on Monday.

“This is one way of creating partnerships with neighbouring clubs, especially our Mozambican counterparts,” the statement reads.

Creck have signed strikers Hassan Hussein, Misheck Botoman, Isaac Msiska and goalkeeper Brighton Munthali.

The team will take part in the 2025 Airtel Top 8 Cup after finishing on position six last season.
