Trade and Industry Minister Vitumbiko Mumba, who is also Malawi Congress Party (MCP) executive member, has asked people from Mbalachanda and Euthini District in Mzimba District to vote for President Lazarus Chakwera in the September 16 elections if the area is to develop.

Mumba said this during a political rally he conducted at Mbalachanda ground, where he also donated two ambulances to serve the two wards of Mbalachanda and Euthini in Mzimba Central Constituency.

Mumba, who has joined the member of Parliament (MP) race for the constituency, said the donation of the ambulances was a sign of the love he had for the people of Mzimba.

He said the ambulances would be managed by hospital authorities, asking politicians not to interfere in the operations of the vehicles.

“I told you during our meeting in January that if I am not going to buy the ambulances, don’t vote for me. I told you that I would bring ambulances. And, now, do you have any reason for not voting for me and President Chakwera?” Mumba said.

No senior MCP member or fellow Cabinet minister attended the rally.

However, Mumba said he was comfortable because he believed that top leaders should be criss-crossing the country, campaigning for Chakwera.

In his remarks, Inkosi Chindi asked MCP leaders to level the playground in order to conduct free, fair and credible primary elections scheduled for April 12 2025.

Chindi, who spoke through Inkosana Chibaka, said imposing candidates on the people would affect national election results as the person might not win come election day; that is, September 16 this year.

“Let your elections be free and fair to all so that the right person should win the primary elections. Peace should also be prioritised because politics is not about fighting people,” Inkosana Chibaka said.

Meanwhile, M’mbelwa District Council Health and Social Services Directorate officials have said the donated ambulances have been allocated to serve Mbalachanda Health Centre and Euthini Rural Hospital.

Recently, the government announced plans to upgrade Euthini Health Centre to be a Community Rural Hospital.

MCP will hold primary elections in Mzimba Central Constituency on Saturday.

Those who are contesting for the position include Presidential Adviser Adamson Kuseli Mkandawire, Nec members Aram Beza and Patricia Singini.
