Members of the Hindu community gathered in Blantyre Sunday to celebrate the birth of Lord Ram during the auspicious occasion of Ram Navami.

Venibhai Ganatra, an elder at the Shree Hindu Seva Mandal, said the celebration of prayers and festive activities reflected the community’s faith, cultural pride and unity.

“As we celebrate the birth of Lord Ram, we pray for peace and harmony in our country. It is our hope that, through our devotion, we can contribute to a more peaceful and prosperous Malawi,” Ganatra said.

Speaking at the event at the Shree Hindu Seva Mandal, Ganatra said the celebration fostered a sense of cultural pride and togetherness among people.

The highlight of the celebrations was a chariot procession, featuring traditional music, devotional chants and a display of religious symbols.

The chariot, which carried sacred symbols of Lord Ram, was followed by a group of devotees singing hymns.

Vice Chairperson for Shree Hindu Seva Mandal, Sureshbhai Gandhi, said the occasion provided them with a chance to reflect on the virtues and teachings of Lord Ram.

“Through this celebration, we aim to inspire goodness, kindness, and unity among the people, reminding everyone of the importance of living a life of integrity and compassion,” Gandhi said.

Mehul Acharya, one of the members who attended the celebrations, said Ram Navami was a time for Hindus to reaffirm their commitment to righteousness, truth and compassion.

“Through this celebration, we are reaffirming our commitment to the values of unity and truth while also strengthening the bonds of unity within the community,” Acharya said.
