Stakeholders seek post TB assessments

Health stakeholders are calling for intensified post-TB assessments to help manage complications that patients face after completing treatment.

The call comes as research reveals that many TB survivors continue to suffer from health problems, including post-TB lung disease.

According to Davie Zenengeya, Monitoring and Evaluation Officer at Paradiso TB Patient Trust, recent data shows that 60 percent of people who have undergone assessment after TB treatment were found with post-TB lung disease.

In an interview with MIJ Online Zenengeya said Paradiso is running a project aimed at identifying and addressing such challenges among TB survivors.

Meanwhile, Dickens Chimatiro, who is Monitoring and Evaluation Officer at the National TB and Leprosy Elimination Program, says the program is working with partners to strengthen TB elimination efforts and offer support to those facing health issues after completing medication.
