Luanar supports MW2063 agenda implementation

Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources (Luanar) has affirmed commitment to remain steadfast in contributing towards the realisation of Malawi’s development plans outlined in Malawi 2063—the country’s long-term development blueprint.

Luanar Council Chairperson Professor Zachary Kasomekera made the remarks in Lilongwe on Thursday during the opening of the fourth session of the university’s seventh congregation.

“In pursuit of the government agenda, Luanar remains an active partner in the implementation of Malawi 2063, whose first pillar is agricultural productivity and commercialisation.

“Luanar is determined to maintain the collaborative work with technical ministries of agriculture and natural resources, especially in tackling constraints to the attainment of Malawi 2063 pillar number one,” he said.

Kasomekera appealed to the graduates to fully use the knowledge and skills gained in order to make a difference in society.

“The piece of paper called a certificate, certifies your competence, please don’t let us down. Go out and productively exploit your innovative skills and knowledge to become great innovators, pathfinders, employers and entrepreneurs,” he said.

Minister of Education Madalitso Kambauwa Wirima urged the graduates to familiarise themselves with the development blueprint.

“Whether they are going to be entrepreneurs, employing themselves, whether they are going to be employed by the government or the private sector, they have to make sure that whatever they do actually aligns with Malawi 2063,” Wirima said.

Dorothy Luwe, one of the students who have graduated with University Certificate of Education, said the knowledge and skills she has acquired will make her a better teacher of science subjects.

“I have a Bachelor of Science in Forestry. I did not do education. With this certificate, I will employ better ways of imparting knowledge in my learners,” she said.

A total of 745 students have graduated with certificates, diplomas and degrees. Out of these, nine have been awarded master’s degrees while three have been awarded PhDs.
