Youthful artist Vanessa Litta on Thursday made her debut outing at the Sounds of Malawi Acoustic Session at Jacaranda Cultural Centre (JCC) in Blantyre.
The performance attracted an audience which included US pop star Madonna’s daughter Mercy James.
James patronised the concert barely two weeks after her brother, David, also visited the venue to watch Ndirande Anglican Voices’ act during Sounds of Malawi Acoustic session.
Litta, who is a graduate from Music Crossroads Malawi, showed progress in her performance as she served a number of tracks which included covers and her own songs.
The musician, who has also starred in several shows both in and outside the country but not as a solo artist, was backed up by Joyce Ntepa, a vocalist she has performed with for a long time.
Litta performed live with a band that had players such as Antony Supriano on drums.
“This means more for me, it has always been my dream to hold a solo show and, today, I have done it. There is so much I want to do but I am happy that I have made a step,” she said.
The concert acted as a warm for Litta, who in September this year, alongside three fellow artists, leaves the country for Brazil to participate in the Musicians Organisers Volunteer Exchange (Move) which is spearheaded by Music Crossroads Malawi.
Litta, who also saw her parents and relatives in attendance, said she is looking forward to releasing her songs on the market while she also continues to perfect her craft in holding more live performances.
JCC Director Luc Deschamps said he was happy to see Litta following her longtime dream.
“I have watched her grow with her talent since she was young. She has moved through phases including pursuing music studies at Music Crossroads Malawi and now she is teaching music and dance at Jacaranda School for Orphans. She is amazing and she is destined to offer more to the country,” Deschamps said.
