Representatives of Finca Malawi are speaking highly of the microfinance institution’s contribution to financial inclusion in the country, having recorded K228 billion in loan disbursements since its inception in 1995.
Finca Malawi Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Charles Bello described the institution’s journey as a roller-coaster, considering the evolving banking and finance environment in the country.
“For 30 years, we have provided financial services to people in Malawi who have been neglected by the high street banks. We work in the rural areas, where we are improving the lives of many.
“Those who have received loans from us can attest to this. Through our loans, they have been able to build houses and send their children to school, among other things. We are proud that Finca Malawi has helped many people in Malawi,” Bello said.
Finca Impact Finance (FIF) is the umbrella company for Finca Malawi.
FIF CEO Jeff Flowers attributed the 30-year success to the hard work and commitment of Finca employees.
“It has been a long journey but we have always believed in the potential of the people of Malawi and have helped them access financial services.
“Every organisation faces challenges. We work with some of the hardest-to-reach customers, some in rural areas, but it is our job to provide the best services,” Flowers said.
One of Finca Malawi’s customers, Files Kalichelo, said her life has significantly improved since she started obtaining loans from the institution.
“The loan I received from Finca has helped me pay school fees for my children and buy livestock. Initially, I had many problems, but since 2021, when I started receiving loans from Finca, my life has changed,” Kalichelo said.
FIF operates in more than 40 countries across the globe.
The microfinance institution was established in Malawi in 1994 with the main focus on supporting village bank institutions and small-scale farmers in Chiradzulu District.
