Alliance for Democracy (Aford) has disclosed that 94 positions will be up for grabs at its 2024 national elective convention.
The indaba will be held in Lilongwe on Friday.
Convention committee chairperson Clement Stambuli said aspirants were still collecting nomination papers.
“We are having the convention on September 13. We are expecting between 650 and 750 delegates to take part in the voting,” Stambuli said.
According to Stambuli, Aford has invited representatives of all political parties to the convention.
“We have invited all political parties, including the governing MCP [Malawi Congress Party]. We have also invited foreign envoys and civil society organisation leaders,” he said.
Incumbent president Enoch Chihana is expected to go unopposed, as there is no one who has come out to challenge him, according to Stambuli.
“We are fully prepared to host a successful convention. Our members are excited, and we expect a productive meeting that will shape the future of our party.
“Our secretariat has worked tirelessly to ensure that all logistical arrangements are in place,” Stambuli said.
Aford’s convention is coming after political parties such as MCP, Democratic Progressive Party and People’s Party held conventions.
