Trade laws under spotlight

The ministry of trade has disclosed plans to review all trade-related laws in a bid to boost local businesses.

This follows the enforcement of the Control of Goods Act which aims at protecting and promoting domestic industries by prohibiting the importation of certain goods, such as maize flour, table eggs, mops and toothpicks.

Speaking to MIJ Online Vitumbiko Mumba, Minister of Trade, said that with the recent addition of a legal advisor to the ministry they will be reviewing all trade-related laws to benefit the country’s citizens.

Meanwhile Mumba has expressed concerns about maintaining the quality of local goods after banning imports.
