Malawi’s finest track and field athletes are set to converge at Kamuzu Academy this Saturday, 21st June, for the 2025 National Track and Field Championship, organised by Athletics Malawi in partnership with the Malawi National Council of Sports.
The prestigious event follows a series of regional qualifiers held last weekend in Zomba, Lilongwe, and Mzuzu, where top performers earned their spots to represent the South, Centre, and North, respectively. A total of 60 athletes—34 men and 26 women—will now compete for national titles across a range of disciplines.
The championship will feature a full slate of events, including sprint and long-distance races (100m, 200m, 800m, 10,000m), hurdles, and relays (4x100m and 4x400m), as well as field events such as discus, javelin, shot put, high jump, long jump, and triple jump.
Athletics Malawi General Secretary Nicholas Kanyenda expressed high expectations ahead of the event: “We’ve seen incredible talent emerge from the regional qualifiers, and we’re expecting a thrilling competition at Kamuzu Academy. This event not only crowns national champions but also helps us identify future representatives for international competitions.”
Medals and cash prizes will be awarded to winners in each category. The public is encouraged to attend and support the nation’s top talent. Gates open at 8:00 AM.
The championship promises to be a showcase of athletic excellence and a celebration of Malawi’s growing sports talent.
